My family was visiting Taj Gateway in Coonoor when my father fractured his hip. I cannot explain the support we received from management and staff. I’m overwhelmed to say the least that this hotel has upheld their standards and exceeded expectations.
They provided car and driver to travel to and from the hospital, food and chai to the hospital and all free of cost!!!
Management continually checked in on our family and the doctors, to enquire after dad’s tests and condition.
Let me also make clear that the hotel has gorgeous rooms, comfortable beds and amenities you’d expect of a luxury hotel. The location, gardens and dining facilities were excellent.
My family is forever grateful for the overwhelming hospitality and attention received from Taj Gateway. We will be returning to visit soon.

Gateway Coonoor is an IHCL property located in upper Coonoor.
The property is built in a colonial style and is 130 year old property. It is very well located making a lot of activities easily accessible.
The room is very clean and well maintained with lot of amenities. The staff is very courteous and they added to the pleasure of the stay. The amenities within the hotel include a gym, bar, restaurant, fireplace, small library, small play area with sports equipment. The property is really beautiful and it’s finitely worth visiting.
I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice luxury holiday in Coonoor. Great place for the breakfast buffet as well. Would love to visit again.

The main reason for me to write a review about this place is the staff of this resort. They are one of the most customer-friendly staff that one can find. I was traveling just for just 1 day to the resort. Due to some confusion, the room was reserved for the wrong date. So, when I landed I had no room under my name. As a special mention, I want to thank Ms. Leona, Mr Madan, and Ms Theresa who understood the situation, were accommodative and could find me a room. Though the only available room at that time was a suite, they could adjust and offered the suite a bit discounted rate. my family thoroughly enjoyed the facilities in the room. If not for the trio, I might have been left with no room. So, thanks for the help guys.
Coming to the location, the resort is about 2 kms from the Coonoor town /bus stand. Once upon a time, this used to be a residence for visiting Priests/Parishes to the adjoining church. It has hence been converted into a resort.
1. The Travel desk could find you a cab if needed for a local trip.
2. The security guards may help you find an auto if you need to commute to some places close by.
3. The breakfast buffet ( included in my price for the day ) - was a decent spread. Though the number of items on the menu was not as expansive as The Carlton in Kodai, all the items were tasty. we could not find fault in any of the dishes.
4. As others mentioned, we even had the chief of cooks walk around and to make sure the food/service was top notch. He was able to strike some commonality with almost everyone and enabled him to strike a conversation with everyone.
If the resort had offered a dinner/Lunch buffet (they only had a-la-carte), it could have been better. Maybe the intent was to let the guests try other restaurants in the vicinity!
The resort allows food delivered from outside , as an alternative.
I would definitely stay here if I visit Coonoor again.

I stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. Absolutely loved the hospitality. The services and the food was amazing. The whole staff was so helpful and welcoming.
Special thanks to Evin, he took me for a nature walk and showed some of the finest viewpoint and unexplored places. He also helped me get the most authentic tea available. Amazing hospitality, thanks for such a great experience.
Would love to come back and recommend all my friends.

It happen to be a long time since I had been to the Taj garden retreat, now it is called Taj gate way, however when I walked into the restaurant only 3 table's where occupied and we sat in the corner table, what should be the procedure, the steward has to walk to the table and wish the guest then he has to ask the guest which which water he prefers ,then serve water ’’, this did not happen.. As soon as we sat on the chair, I had to ask who is the steward for the table, what nonsense is this !! is this the way you'll train your waiter's ,no manners on the first place and there when 2 senior stewards standing and gazing around I had to call this guy Britto the other was acting as if he hasn't seen any guest's and was fiddling with the comp in his desk.. If I had to know who was the F & B Manager would have brefied him properly ,the food was below average for the Standard of TAJ, I had placed an order for Chicken Tikka only 5 piece's in the plate, then placed another order for chicken varuval, it was like soya chunks fried in oil peppered with few onions and a piece of tomato ’’, served, both the starters where so damn cold, even the ROAD SIDE shop's would have been better, so disgusting it was, CHEF RAMALINGAM walked THRICE into the restaurant, did not bother to come over and ask at least for a sake of asking, how was the FOOD ,even after complaining the WAITER (BRITTO )the OLD MAN did not do that, the management should CHUCK THIS GUY OUT ASAP, he's not FIT to be here in TAJ just for a sake of asking I had asked for a DISCOUNT this man scooted from the restaurant, what kind of ATTITUDE is this, however such disgraceful experience I ever had in a star ’’ hotel, USELESS STARTERS SERVED VERY COLD, THE RECRUITED GM should intervene with immediate effect and take required action.. At the time of leaving, asked the TRAINEE to call the CHEF ,this man didn't have the courtesy to come.. OVERALL DISGRACEFU and PATHETIC it was..IS TAJ PAYING FREE SALARY FOR THE KIND EMPLOYEE'S.. IF THIS THE CASE KINDLY TELL I'LL REFER FEW....
